Internet Conspiratorial Observations
Clearly, we are living in a day and age where global information is so plentiful that it borders on the brink of overwhelming. There are so many sources on the Worldwide Web feeding into the “arena of ideas” that it has become very difficult to determine what is actually legitimate, or simply fake news. This so often is due to many of these Internet news sources competing for advertising revenue—generating a “swirling pot” of information on all kinds of different stories to obviously attract attention and advertisers—but, contributing to the lack of “due diligence” for what is authentic news.
The magnitude and scope of the broad-base exposure the Internet provides gives the story a real advantage to gain notoriety, which so often can lead to a degree of credibility simply because of the sources that embrace the topic by way of its presentation. The unfortunate aspect of this is that “hits” can translate to dollars that can make the owners of certain Internet sites very rich; and so the integrity of the story is vulnerable to compromise for the additional benefit of increased advertisers to the owner.
This leads to a very toxic environment in the way of news and stokes the risks of advancing conspiracy theories but, unfortunately, with a slant of seriousness that hooks the follower (believer, or the curious), in what they’re led to believe is framed in truth.
As Bill shows in this session of Biblical News Updates and Commentary, this can lead to a very unstable world condition, depending on the content of the story and those involved. Furthermore, it may advance information that could be hurtful to reputations or even ignite world confusion and/or social outrage and distain.
