Love Beyond Comprehension

by Brandy Webb

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). I have heard this scripture many times in my life, but today it hit me in a much deeper way.

I have two beautiful children. I love them dearly. I would not think twice in sacrificing myself for them. But God loved us so much that He sacrificed His only Son for us. Which one of us would ever be willing to sacrifice our child so that everyone could live?

I have never thought about it like that. I have never thought about the pain the Father must have gone through, of what it was like for Him to watch His only Son tortured to death for everyone on earth past and present. He sacrificed His Son for all of humanity.

His love is so huge that it goes beyond comprehension. I do not know if I could sacrifice my child so that another person could live. I hope that this thought is not offensive to anyone. My point is that today I realized how deep God’s love for you and me really is. God did something that none of us would ever want to have to do and quite possibly would not be able to do.

It is one thing to sacrifice yourself for someone else, but it is another to be willing to sacrifice someone you love for everyone. So, when you doubt if God really cares about what you are going through, when the trials of this world seem to overwhelm your thoughts, and you wonder if God cares, take a moment to realize how much Hcares. He watched His Son die so that we could have a chance to live forever.

“For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:17).
