Ambassadors

by Jeremy A. Brown

Were you aware that you are an ambassador? First, what is the job of an ambassador? Let us discuss the role of an ambassador. The job of an ambassador is to represent their respective government in dealings with other nations regarding foreign aid, treaty negotiations, and immigration, to name a few. Ambassadors express the values of their government. They give an answer to other foreign nations regarding their government's position on different issues. What if I told you God said we are to be ambassadors to the world for the benefit of His Word?

God says we are Christ's ambassadors, and through our actions of observing His laws and commandments, we are appealing to the world for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:2). Just as the U.S. ambassador to Canada, Africa, or any other nation (country) lets that nation know where America stands on its current intentions, such as invading another nation or closing its border to our citizens, we are ambassadors for Christ. We represent Christ by our actions, the way we keep the Ten Commandments, clean/unclean meats, holy days of God, and conduct ourselves. It (our actions) not only tells people our stance but the likely values of God (1 John 2:3-5). People will say this man or woman is an ambassador for Christ, and I presume it is okay for him/her to behave this way. Our action is an appeal to believers and unbelievers to come and follow Christ. It leads to peace in an unpeaceful world (John 14:27).

Being an ambassador is an especially important position, and we should not take it lightly. Just as the actions of an ambassador speak loudly for a nation to its foreign allies, our actions speak loudly to the world about the people who claim to be followers of Jesus, the Christ.
